Agriculture officials across Quezon province have escalated their preparedness measures ahead of the anticipated El Niño weather phenomenon, with local authorities moving to shield farmers and fisherfolk from potential crop failures and reduced yields.

The Quezon chapter of the League of Municipal Agriculture Officers, Municipal and City Agriculturists of the Philippines, Inc. (LEMMCAP) gathered in Lucena City on October 1 and 2 to coordinate disaster response initiatives and identify support mechanisms for agricultural communities. The two-day meeting focused on developing actionable projects to address El Niño-related challenges across the province's farming and fishing sectors.

Provincial officials emphasized the need for unified planning to ensure farmers and fisherfolk receive consistent assistance throughout the dry weather period. The coordination effort aims to standardize agricultural extension services and emergency support across municipal and city governments in the province.

Quezon, a major agricultural region in the CALABARZON corridor, faces significant vulnerability to El Niño-induced droughts and water shortages. The provincial meeting signals renewed commitment among local agriculture departments to minimize production losses and maintain rural livelihoods during the critical weather pattern.
