MANILA — Quezon City authorities have formally disbanded Task Force Disiplina, the city's anti-criminality unit, after members of the force opened fire on three teenagers in a shooting that drew widespread condemnation. The dissolution takes effect immediately, according to city officials.

All former members of the task force have been barred from conducting authorized operations or patrols under the unit's name, city authorities said. Before any personnel can resume duties with the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), they must pass comprehensive background checks, neuropsychological evaluations, and drug testing.

The action marks a significant step by the city government to address public concerns over the conduct of the enforcement unit. The three teenagers were killed in what authorities are investigating as a controversial police encounter.

The disbandment signals a major policy shift in Quezon City's approach to crime prevention and public order, with officials signaling a commitment to enhanced vetting and accountability measures for law enforcement personnel moving forward.
