CABARROGUIS, Quirino — Grief settled over the Quirino People's Gymnasium on Thursday night as residents gathered to pay final respects to Governor Dakila Carlo "Dax" Cua, who died Tuesday in the national capital.
Cua's casket arrived in a motorcade at Cabarroguis after being transported from Cauayan Domestic Airport in neighboring Isabela province. The somber homecoming drew provincial officials and mourners seeking to bid farewell to the longtime chief executive.
As the province mourned, Vice Governor Reynaldo Vaquilar took the oath of office to assume the governorship for the remainder of Cua's term. The transition came swiftly following the governor's death, ensuring continuity in provincial leadership during the period of mourning.
Cua had served the province in various capacities throughout his political career. His passing marks a significant moment in Quirino's governance, with Vaquilar now tasked with steering the province through the remainder of the term.
