Rafizi urges Anwar to explain reforms clearly to win public backing
The Bersama leader says Malaysians will accept difficult economic measures such as GST and subsidy cuts if they understand the long-term benefits. He warns against approaching voters with a patronising tone.

Rafizi Ramli has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to communicate government reforms in a straightforward manner rather than adopting a condescending approach toward voters, saying Malaysians are capable of understanding and accepting difficult policy decisions.
The Bersama party leader argued that the public would be willing to support measures such as the reintroduction of the Goods and Services Tax and cuts to subsidies, provided they perceive tangible benefits that outweigh the immediate costs of such reforms.
Rafizi's remarks underscore the importance of transparent communication in securing public acceptance for unpopular economic policies. He suggested that voters, when properly informed about the rationale behind reforms and their expected outcomes, demonstrate sufficient sophistication to weigh short-term hardship against long-term gains.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions within government circles about implementing structural economic reforms necessary to stabilize Malaysia's fiscal position and improve its competitiveness. The timing of such reforms and their presentation to the public remain contentious issues within the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
