Rahane backs Kuldeep despite poor showing; Sutherland impresses in Sri Lanka Test

Kuldeep Yadav managed just one wicket in India's opening Test against Sri Lanka, prompting veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane to advocate for continued backing of the left-arm spinner. Rahane emphasised that Kuldeep requires the team's support and confidence to regain form, suggesting that India should maintain faith in the player despite the underwhelming outing.

In a contrasting performance, young left-arm spinner Manu Sutherland captured 10 wickets in the match, making a strong case for regular selection. While Rahane acknowledged Sutherland's impressive effort, he stressed the need for sustained improvement from the emerging talent.

With India holding a 1-0 lead in the series, Rahane indicated that the playing XI is unlikely to undergo significant changes for the second Test unless the pitch conditions favour pace bowling. The second Test of the series is scheduled to commence on August 23 in Colombo.
