Rahul Gandhi demands Election Commissioner's resignation over poll conduct

Opposition parties gathered for a high-profile demonstration in New Delhi on Tuesday, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the forefront, pressing for the Election Commissioner's immediate resignation. Gandhi levelled accusations that the electoral apparatus has been compromised, claiming the government has manipulated the election process to its advantage.

Addressing the assembled protesters, Gandhi contended that institutional safeguards meant to ensure fair elections have been systematically undermined. The Congress leader called for an independent inquiry into alleged electoral malpractices, asserting that public confidence in democratic processes could only be restored through transparent investigation and institutional accountability.

The Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed the demonstration as a manifestation of electoral defeat rather than genuine concern for institutional integrity. BJP spokespersons argued that opposition parties regularly resort to such allegations when electoral outcomes prove unfavourable, characterising the protest as a predictable response from defeated political rivals.

The controversy reflects mounting tensions between the ruling coalition and opposition ranks over election administration. Multiple opposition parties have previously raised concerns about electoral procedures, though the government has consistently maintained that all polls have been conducted according to constitutional frameworks and election regulations.
