Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has opened up about his meeting with Sidhu Moosewala, the Punjab-based singer who was shot dead in May 2022. During a recent meeting with Moosewala's father, Gandhi reflected on their earlier encounter at his office.
Gandhi recalled that at the time of their meeting, he was unfamiliar with Moosewala's musical work and had not heard his songs or voice. However, he noted that he had been informed by others that Moosewala was a good person, which had prompted the meeting.
Characterizing Moosewala as a "dynamic, talented young man," Gandhi's comments appear aimed at acknowledging the singer's potential and contributions. Moosewala had briefly aligned himself with the Congress party before pursuing his music career full-time in Punjab.
The singer's death in a targeted shooting incident in his village sparked significant controversy and raised questions about security and law and order in Punjab. Gandhi's remarks represent one of the few public statements by senior Congress leadership reflecting on their interaction with the late artist.
