Rahul Gandhi to host opposition MPs, activists for high tea gathering

Rahul Gandhi has invited members of the INDIA bloc, civil society activists and student organisations for a high tea gathering at his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the plans. The event at 5, Sunehri Bagh Road will commence at 4:00 PM, following a joint press conference by opposition alliance leaders scheduled for the afternoon.

The gathering comes as a continuation of momentum from the opposition's "March for Democracy" held on Monday, during which leaders and civil society members marched through a heavily secured route to protest alleged electoral irregularities. The opposition subsequently filed a joint petition before the Supreme Court raising concerns about poll management and related issues.

The high tea represents a show of unity among opposition parties within the INDIA bloc as they intensify their campaign against what they characterise as systemic electoral challenges. The decision to bring together parliamentary members alongside student groups and activists underscores the opposition's effort to broaden the scope of their protest beyond legislative circles.

The event coincides with heightened tensions surrounding electoral processes, with opposition parties maintaining sustained pressure on the government and electoral authorities through simultaneous parliamentary and extra-parliamentary channels. The gathering is expected to serve as a platform for coordinating strategy among allied opposition parties and their supporting civil society groups.
