Train services between Rambukkana and Peradeniya, as well as between Peradeniya and Gampola, have been taken out of operation effective immediately, the Department of Railways confirmed in an official statement issued Wednesday. The suspension was announced in response to adverse weather conditions affecting the safety of rail operations along the affected routes in the central highlands.
The decision to halt services was taken after assessing prevailing conditions across the railway lines serving the three stations. The department cited safety considerations as the primary factor in implementing the closure, though detailed information regarding specific weather-related hazards was not disclosed in the announcement.
Passengers travelling between these stations have been advised to seek alternative transport arrangements. The Department of Railways has not indicated a specific timeframe for resumption of normal services, stating only that operations will remain suspended until further notice. Commuters are expected to monitor official communications for updates on service restoration.
