Railway Assets Corporation obtains interim injunction against activist

The Seremban High Court has issued an interim injunction in favour of Perbadanan Aset Keretapi (Railway Assets Corporation) against activist Chegubard, in connection with alleged defamatory statements. The restraining order will remain in force until the next substantive hearing on January 20, 2024. The decision came after the defendant requested additional time to file a response affidavit to the corporation's case. The interim measure effectively restricts the activist's actions pending full judicial consideration of the merits. The case centres on allegations of defamation brought by the state-owned railway assets management body. The January 20 hearing will determine whether the interim injunction should be made permanent or whether further proceedings are warranted. Legal experts note that interim injunctions in defamation cases typically require the plaintiff to demonstrate a strong prima facie case and significant risk of irreparable harm if the order is not granted.
