Railways invest ₹13,724 crore in Guntur district infrastructure overhaul

Railway authorities have launched an extensive infrastructure development programme worth ₹13,724 crore across Guntur district, addressing long-standing congestion at key transportation nodes. The comprehensive plan includes the construction of eight road-over-bridges designed to separate road and rail traffic at busy intersections throughout the region.
Among the priority projects is the Gaddipadu road-over-bridge, whose foundation stone was recently laid. The structure will carry Inner Ring Road traffic over a level crossing frequented by 78 trains daily, significantly improving traffic flow and reducing delays at a critical junction.
The district's largest single investment is the ₹4,306-crore doubling of the Guntur-Guntakal railway line. This project will enhance capacity along a crucial freight and passenger corridor, reducing congestion and enabling faster train operations between the two cities.
The modernisation programme reflects efforts to upgrade transportation infrastructure in the region, balancing road and rail development needs. Officials have indicated that the works are progressing according to schedule, with multiple projects at various stages of implementation. Once completed, the infrastructure improvements are expected to substantially improve connectivity and reduce travel times across Guntur district.
