Railways invites bids for track doubling project in Tamil Nadu

Indian Railways has issued a tender for a major infrastructure project to double railway tracks on the Aduthurai-Sundaraperumal Koil section in Tamil Nadu. The project, estimated at ₹289.17 crore, forms part of broader efforts to expand rail capacity in the southern region.

According to project timelines, construction work is scheduled to commence in January 2024. The doubling initiative will be undertaken in conjunction with railway line electrification, combining two critical modernization objectives into a single implementation phase.

The railway administration has set an ambitious one-year completion target for the combined track doubling and electrification work. Successfully meeting this deadline would significantly enhance the operational capacity and efficiency of the route, benefiting both passenger and freight services.

The tender, now open for competitive bidding, seeks qualified contractors capable of executing rail infrastructure projects of this scale and complexity. The project underscores Railways' commitment to augmenting network capacity in southern India as part of its ongoing modernization programme.
