Rainfall above 100mm expected across five provinces
Sri Lanka's meteorological department has warned of heavy precipitation across the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance developing near the island.

A low-level atmospheric disturbance positioned near Sri Lanka is expected to bring significant rainfall to multiple provinces over the coming days, the Department of Meteorology cautioned on September 14.
The Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces will experience cloudy conditions with intermittent showers and thundershowers, according to the department's forecast. Several other regions across the island are also likely to see precipitation developing from 1:00 p.m. onwards on September 14.
The department has indicated that some areas within the affected provinces may experience rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres. The disturbance is expected to bring widespread wet weather, with thundershowers posing potential hazards including flash flooding and landslips in vulnerable areas.
The public has been advised to remain alert for weather updates as the system moves through Sri Lankan waters. Residents in affected provinces, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, are urged to take necessary precautions and monitor official meteorological bulletins for further developments.
