The Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, home to one of India's most significant collections of Raja Ravi Varma's works, is embarking on an ambitious modernization programme. Radhikaraje Gaekwad, a member of the Vadodara royal family, announced plans to expand the museum's infrastructure to better serve preservation and exhibition needs.
At the heart of the upgrade is a state-of-the-art storage facility designed to meet contemporary conservation standards. The new facility is expected to be fully operational by 2025, allowing the museum to safely house its invaluable collection of paintings and artifacts while freeing up exhibition space for public access.
Once the storage infrastructure is in place, the museum intends to launch a nationwide touring exhibition programme featuring Raja Ravi Varma's masterpieces. The initiative would bring the celebrated 19th-century artist's works to museums and cultural institutions across India, providing wider public access to the collection beyond Vadodara.
The expansion reflects growing recognition of the need to preserve India's artistic heritage while making it more accessible to scholars and art enthusiasts. The Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum's initiative is part of broader efforts by cultural institutions to balance conservation with public engagement and scholarly research.
