Rajapaksa and Siriwardena remanded in bribery probe

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on Wednesday further remanded Namal Rajapaksa and Janaki Siriwardena, former Executive Director of the Krrish Group, until November 6 in connection with an alleged bribery case. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested both suspects and presented them before the court.

The investigation centers on allegations that Rs. 70 million in bribes were involved in dealings connected to the Krrish Group. CIABOC has been leading the probe into the matter, which has drawn significant public attention given Rajapaksa's political background.

The extension of custody indicates that investigators require additional time to gather evidence and conduct further questioning. Both suspects remain in detention as the investigation proceeds. The court has scheduled the next remand hearing for early November, at which point authorities are expected to present further developments in the case.

The allegations represent part of ongoing anti-corruption efforts in the country, with CIABOC pursuing multiple investigations into suspected bribery and improper financial dealings across various sectors.
