Rajasthan civic polls: Resort politics emerges as parties vie for councillor support

Political brinkmanship has intensified across Rajasthan as the BJP and Congress jostle for control of municipal boards following recent civic election results. The post-poll scramble has taken an unusual turn, with multiple reports indicating that elected councillors are being accommodated in hotels and resorts across several districts including Alwar, Khimsar, Kotputli, Bhiwadi and Baharod.

The practice, commonly referred to as "resort politics," represents an effort by both parties to keep councillors in secure locations while negotiations over board formation continue. Political observers view such arrangements as a tactic to prevent defections and maintain numerical strength during critical voting procedures.

Local administration and police have come under scrutiny for their handling of the situation. Opposition leader Tikaram Jully has publicly questioned the operational protocols of law enforcement agencies, suggesting inadequate oversight of the process.

As board formation remains incomplete, the deployment of resources to maintain councillor presence in these establishments is expected to escalate. Political analysts suggest the contest could extend beyond the initial board-formation phase, potentially involving high-stakes negotiations and significant financial expenditure by both sides.
