Jaiprakash Charan, a government official in Rajasthan, has been arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh, according to a statement from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The arrest was made following a formal complaint regarding the alleged demand for the illicit payment.
The accused is alleged to have demanded the bribe from the complainant in exchange for issuing an agreement letter for the institution and clearing its pending bills. The demand reportedly constituted an abuse of his official position to extract financial benefits from a person seeking routine administrative services.
ACB Director General Govind Gupta confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is underway.
