Rajasthan probe finds 3,200 tonnes of midday meal rations missing from schools

A substantial quantity of food grains meant for the midday meal programme in government schools across Kota, Rajasthan has failed to reach its intended destination, according to an official investigation. Of the 3,213 quintals of wheat and rice allocated for the scheme, a significant portion never arrived at schools, prompting a departmental review.

The investigation uncovered a shortfall valued at nearly 81 lakh rupees, raising questions about the handling and distribution of essential food supplies meant for students. The discrepancy between warehouse records and school receipts has become the subject of an active inquiry.

Authorities have directed allegations toward Bhairavnath Roadways, a Gujarat-based transport firm contracted to deliver the supplies. A formal complaint from the food supplies department led to the registration of a first information report with local police.

The police department has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the missing food grain consignment and establish accountability for the loss. The case highlights ongoing concerns about supply chain management in government welfare programmes across the state.
