Rajasthan Swelters as Monsoon Retreats, Heat Records Shattered

Rajasthan's post-monsoon period has brought unexpectedly severe heat conditions across the state, with meteorological stations reporting alarming temperature spikes. Jaisalmer recorded 42.9°C, while Barmer broke a ten-year temperature record, signalling an abnormal weather pattern for the season.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a four-day alert warning residents of continued heat stress across multiple districts. The sudden temperature surge follows the withdrawal of the monsoon system, which typically moderates heat levels during the September-October transition period.

Exerts attribute the sharp increase in temperatures to a combination of factors including the rapid monsoon retreat, clear skies allowing unobstructed solar radiation, and prevailing atmospheric conditions that are trapping heat over the region. The inland location of Rajasthan's western districts, particularly Jaisalmer and Barmer, makes them especially vulnerable to extreme temperature fluctuations.

Authorities have advised residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, including staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during peak hours. The meteorological department is closely monitoring atmospheric conditions for any further developments in the coming days.
