Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Sherathang area near Nathu La in Sikkim on Diwali, undertaking the journey to acknowledge the sacrifices made by military personnel stationed along the India-China border. The visit underscored the government's commitment to recognising the contributions of armed forces deployed in strategically significant regions of the country.
During the visit, Singh paid tribute to fallen soldiers, honouring those who have given their lives in service to the nation. The Defence Minister's decision to mark the festival at the border region highlighted the importance placed on morale-building and direct engagement with frontline troops.
Singh also interacted with Army personnel stationed in the area, spending time with soldiers deployed along one of India's most challenging and strategically vital borders. Such visits serve to reinforce the connection between the defence establishment and troops operating in remote, high-altitude regions.
The Nathu La sector, located at approximately 4,310 metres, remains a critical point of contact between Indian and Chinese forces. Regular high-level visits to border areas underscore India's commitment to maintaining military readiness and personnel morale in these regions.
