Raksha Bandhan 2024 to fall on auspicious day, lunar eclipse concerns eased

Raksha Bandhan, traditionally observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravan, will be celebrated on August 28 this year under favourable astrological conditions. While Bhadra—a period considered inauspicious for ritual activities—will occur on August 27, it is set to conclude before the auspicious time window for tying rakhi on August 28.

According to astrological calculations, Bhadra will be in effect from 9:08 AM until 9:27 PM on August 27, ending well ahead of the designated auspicious period for Raksha Bandhan observances on the following day. This temporal separation allows devotees to proceed with the festival celebrations without conflict with the inauspicious period.

The timing of Raksha Bandhan falling on the Shravan full moon this year is considered particularly auspicious, with multiple favourable planetary alignments expected to coincide with the festival date. The festival, which celebrates the bond between siblings and involves the tying of protective thread on the wrist, can be safely observed without astrological impediments.
