Rare dinosaur skeleton to fetch up to $9 million at New York auction

The fossil, nicknamed Jodi after the rancher who unearthed it, represents a remarkable specimen of the small theropod dinosaur species Nanotyrannus. The skeleton is approximately 70 percent complete, making it an exceptionally well-preserved find that has already generated significant interest within the paleontological community and among private collectors.

The auction is scheduled for October 27 at Sotheby's in New York. The sale marks a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a significant dinosaur specimen, as such complete remains of Nanotyrannus are seldom available on the commercial market.

Paleontologists have expressed keen interest in the specimen's potential scientific value. The well-preserved nature of Jodi could provide valuable insights into the biology and evolution of this lesser-known theropod species, which lived during the Late Cretaceous period.
