Rauf to remain Malacca CM if BN retains state, says Zahid

MALACCA: Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Zahid Hamidi has signalled that Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Rauf will retain the position of Malacca Chief Minister if the coalition wins the forthcoming state polls.

Zahid clarified that the arrangement remains contingent upon the consent of the Malacca state governor, underscoring the constitutional role of the ruler in appointing the Chief Minister.

The statement comes as BN prepares for the Malacca election, which will determine the composition of the state legislature. The coalition's position on leadership continuity is expected to factor into voter considerations ahead of polling day.

Malacca has been a significant political battleground in recent years, with leadership transitions occurring following the 2018 general election and subsequent political developments in the state.
