Razorpay has obtained Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) approval to proceed with its initial public offering, marking a significant milestone for the fintech company's journey toward going public. According to sources, the company is seeking to raise ₹5,000-6,000 crore through the share sale, with an anticipated valuation of approximately $5 billion.
The regulatory clearance comes nearly six months after Razorpay filed its draft red herring prospectus with Sebi through the confidential filing route in June. This approval enables the company to move forward with its plans to access capital markets and become a publicly listed entity.
Razorpay, established in 2014 by Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar, has emerged as a leading player in India's fintech landscape. The platform provides an integrated suite of financial services including payment acceptance, banking infrastructure, payouts, payroll solutions and lending facilities to businesses across the country.
The company serves a diverse client base spanning startups, small and medium enterprises, and large multinational corporations. Since achieving unicorn status in 2020, Razorpay has progressively diversified beyond its core payments business into a comprehensive financial services ecosystem designed to meet the evolving needs of Indian merchants and enterprises.
