RBI elevates Suman Ray to executive director role from September

The Reserve Bank of India announced the appointment of Suman Ray as executive director with effect from September 1, marking his elevation within the central bank's hierarchy. Ray's promotion comes following his tenure as regional director for Maharashtra, where he oversaw the RBI's operations in the state.

In his new role, Ray will oversee the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) and the Premises Department. The DICGC plays a critical role in protecting depositors' interests by insuring bank deposits, while the Premises Department manages the RBI's physical infrastructure and facilities.

The appointment reflects the central bank's confidence in Ray's leadership capabilities and his understanding of RBI's operations across different functions. His experience in regional management is expected to bring valuable insights to the executive director position as he takes charge of departments that are vital to the RBI's core mandate and operational efficiency.

Ray's elevation is part of the regular succession planning at the RBI, which maintains a structured process for promoting senior officials to key leadership positions within the organization.
