The RBI chief noted that technological advancement has enabled financial services to reach wider populations, breaking geographical and infrastructural barriers that traditionally limited banking access.
The Governor underscored that while the RBI remains supportive of fintech innovation and growth, such developments must be pursued within a framework that prioritises consumer safety and regulatory compliance. He stressed that trust remains the cornerstone of the financial system, and technological progress cannot come at the expense of security or customer protection.
Malhotra's remarks reflect the RBI's balanced approach to regulating India's rapidly growing fintech sector. The central bank has been actively engaged in creating frameworks that encourage innovation while safeguarding systemic stability and consumer interests. His comments signal continued openness to fintech advancement provided such growth aligns with regulatory standards and consumer welfare principles.
