The comments were made during the inauguration of an English Language Development Initiative, a collaborative programme organised by The Hindu and VIT-AP (Vellore Institute of Technology, Andhra Pradesh) at Zilla Praja Parishad High School in Mandadam, located in the Amaravati region.
The initiative aims to strengthen English language proficiency among students by fostering engagement with reading materials and developing communication skills. Officials present at the event stressed that proficiency in English remains a critical competency for students seeking opportunities in higher education and the job market.
The programme represents an effort by educational institutions and media partners to address language learning gaps at the grassroots level, particularly in government schools where resource constraints often limit exposure to quality English instruction and reading materials.
