Devendra Pratap Singh, a maverick BJP MLC, has lodged a formal complaint with the chief election commissioner alleging irregularities in the vote counting process for the Gorakhpur-Faizabad teacher MLC constituency.
In a letter to the electoral authority, Singh has requested a recount of votes from booth number 84 in Devariya district and booths numbered 111 and 115 in Mau, claiming procedural violations during the counting process.
The complaint marks another instance of intra-party dissent within the BJP ahead of the legislative council election results. Singh's allegations, if substantiated, could trigger an official inquiry into the conduct of officials overseeing the counting process.
The chief election commission has not yet responded to the petition or indicated whether it will order a recount at the disputed polling stations. The development comes as various political parties continue monitoring the teacher MLC seat election, which has drawn considerable attention given its competitive nature and the involvement of a senior party defector.
