Rebel TMC faction seeks INDIA bloc entry, demands Banerjee's removal

A dissident group within the Trinamool Congress has signaled its readiness to align with the INDIA opposition coalition, provided that Mamata Banerjee is removed from the alliance. Party leader Mohammad Akhruzzo'aman leveled sharp accusations against the West Bengal Chief Minister, claiming she has effectively functioned as a "B-team" of the BJP in recent political developments.

According to the rebel faction, Banerjee's conduct during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections caused significant damage to the broader opposition unity. The group contends that her strategic choices weakened the collective position of opposition parties competing against the ruling BJP at the national level.

The demand represents a critical moment for the INDIA bloc, which was formed to consolidate anti-BJP political forces ahead of the last general elections. The stance taken by the TMC dissenters could complicate efforts to maintain cohesion within the coalition as opposition parties prepare for upcoming electoral contests.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress under Banerjee's leadership remains a significant player in Indian politics, particularly in West Bengal where it governs. The internal party conflict underscores deeper tensions within opposition ranks over strategy and leadership ahead of future electoral battles.
