Recovery operations at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City have yielded 19 additional sets of war martyrs' remains, according to military personnel overseeing the excavation work. The discovery adds to the substantial number of remains identified at the site as teams continue systematic efforts to locate and recover fallen soldiers.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Ngoc Ha, addressing the recovery effort, emphasized the determination of officers and soldiers to maintain momentum despite challenging conditions. "We are committed to overcoming obstacles and working with speed while maintaining rigorous standards for thoroughness and safety," the officer stated, underscoring the dual imperatives of efficiency and meticulous identification protocols.
The Ho Chi Minh City operation represents part of a broader national initiative to account for war dead. A previous 500-day campaign at Le Thi Rieng Park had recovered 664 sets of remains, while concurrent efforts in other provinces including Da Nang and Dong Thap continue to yield artifacts and remains from mass grave sites.
Recovery teams face intense heat and monsoon conditions while conducting the delicate work of excavation, documentation, and preliminary identification. The ongoing operations underscore Vietnam's commitment to honoring fallen soldiers and providing closure to families of the deceased through comprehensive recovery and identification programs.
