MANILA — Malacañang has appealed to local government units across the country to take greater responsibility in mitigating flood risks within their jurisdictions by prioritizing garbage management and waterway maintenance.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto emphasized in a statement the critical importance of LGUs working in tandem with national agencies to execute what he described as an "all-out approach" to address the persistent flooding problem affecting communities nationwide.
Keeping streets and waterways free of refuse is essential to preventing blockages that exacerbate flooding during heavy rainfall, Recto noted. He stressed that local officials must work diligently to ensure proper waste disposal and regular cleaning of drainage systems in their municipalities and cities.
The call underscores the government's emphasis on a multi-level response to natural disaster management, recognizing that frontline implementation by local authorities is crucial to reducing flood damage and protecting residents' lives and property.
