Red Cross seeks $31m for Nepal disaster recovery efforts

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has unveiled a $31 million appeal to coordinate comprehensive disaster assistance for Nepal. The funding drive encompasses immediate emergency response measures alongside medium and long-term recovery support, with activities expected to span two years.

The appeal addresses the full spectrum of post-disaster needs, transitioning from critical emergency interventions to sustained reconstruction efforts. This phased approach allows the organisation to provide lifesaving assistance while simultaneously building capacity for communities to rebuild and strengthen resilience against future disasters.

The IFRC's Nepal operations involve coordinating with local Red Crescent chapters and international partners to deliver aid across affected regions. The funds will support emergency shelter, medical care, water and sanitation services, as well as livelihood restoration and infrastructure rehabilitation programmes.

Nepal's vulnerability to natural disasters, including earthquakes and seasonal flooding, underscores the importance of both rapid response mechanisms and long-term recovery planning. The appeal reflects the organisation's commitment to ensuring affected populations receive sustained support throughout their recovery journey.
