Red rainfall alert issued for Metro Manila and Luzon provinces
The state weather bureau has raised a red rainfall warning over Metro Manila and eight Luzon areas Saturday as the southwest monsoon brings heavy precipitation across the region.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued the alert at 11 a.m. Saturday, cautioning residents of the capital and surrounding provinces to prepare for intense downpours driven by the habagat monsoon system.
Red rainfall warnings represent the most severe precipitation alert in Pagasa's classification system, typically issued when rainfall is expected to exceed 40 millimeters within one hour or 200 millimeters within 24 hours. The designation signals potential threats including flash floods, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.
Residents in affected areas have been advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the period of heavy rainfall. Local government units were urged to activate their disaster response protocols and prepare evacuation centers where needed.
The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, typically brings enhanced rainfall to western portions of Luzon during its active phase. Pagasa continues to monitor the weather system and is expected to issue updates as conditions evolve throughout the day.
