Red rainfall alert persists across Metro Manila and Luzon regions

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) kept a red rainfall warning in effect over Metro Manila and other portions of Luzon on Sunday afternoon as the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, continued to drench the region.

The state weather bureau issued the alert at 2 p.m., indicating that heavy downpours were expected to persist in affected areas. The red warning classification signals the highest level of rainfall concern, typically issued when precipitation is forecast to be extreme and potentially hazardous.

Beyond the red-warning zones, Pagasa also downgraded several areas to lower rainfall alert levels, though these regions remained under close monitoring. The downgrade suggested that while conditions in those areas warranted continued caution, the intensity of expected rainfall had decreased compared to earlier forecasts.

Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant for potential flooding and landslides as the monsoon system continues its course. Authorities urge the public to avoid travel through flood-prone areas and to heed all weather-related advisories from local government units.
