Red rainfall alert remains in effect across Metro Manila and Luzon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) kept the red rainfall alert in place over Metro Manila and other Luzon areas Sunday afternoon, citing the persistent effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat.

The alert, issued at 2 p.m., indicated that rainfall intensity remained at dangerous levels across the affected regions. Red warnings signal the most severe precipitation conditions, typically accompanied by risks of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Pagesa also issued lower-level rainfall warnings for additional locations as the monsoon system continued to influence weather patterns across northern and central Luzon. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against potential flooding.

The southwest monsoon typically brings enhanced rainfall to western portions of the country during its peak season. Authorities urged the public to monitor weather updates closely and follow guidance from local disaster management officials.
