The Kalyana Karnataka Pratyeka Rajya Horata Samiti, a regional organization focused on development issues in the area, has formally requested the Centre to consider a Kannadiga scholar for the Vice-Chancellor position at the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) located at Kadaganchi on the outskirts of Kalaburagi.
The group's appeal underscores growing sentiment in the region that senior academic leadership positions at central institutions should prioritize candidates with local roots and understanding of regional aspirations. The CUK, established to serve as a hub of higher education in the Kalyana Karnataka region, has been a focal point for development discussions in the historically underserved area.
The samiti's intervention reflects broader discussions in Karnataka about representation in central institutions. Proponents argue that appointing a local academician would ensure the university's leadership remains attuned to regional educational needs and community expectations.
The Central University of Karnataka has not yet announced its search timeline or criteria for the new Vice-Chancellor position. The Union government's Higher Education Ministry typically oversees appointment processes for central university leadership roles across India.
