Regional stability impossible without Palestinian state: Jordan's king

King Abdullah II declared that neither security nor stability can be attained in the region without resolving the Palestinian question through the creation of an independent state. His remarks underscore growing concerns among regional leaders about the humanitarian toll and political consequences of the prolonged Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Jordanian monarch highlighted the deteriorating situation across multiple fronts, noting that despite international calls for Israel to cease violations of Palestinian rights, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains dire. He also pointed to continued attacks and clashes in the West Bank and Jerusalem as evidence that the status quo is untenable.

Jordan, which hosts a large Palestinian refugee population and shares borders with both Israel and the Palestinian territories, has long positioned itself as a key mediator in Middle East peace efforts. King Abdullah's statement reflects the kingdom's perspective that unresolved Palestinian grievances pose a fundamental threat to regional peace and prosperity.

The comments come as international pressure mounts on various parties to de-escalate tensions and move toward diplomatic solutions. Regional observers have increasingly warned that without addressing the underlying Palestinian issue, cycles of violence and instability are likely to persist across the Middle East.
