KUALA LUMPUR — The Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (Rehda) has expressed cautious backing for housing initiatives announced in Budget 2027, while emphasizing that additional government action is essential to address persistent cost pressures facing the industry.

In a statement following the budget announcement, Rehda acknowledged the government's commitment to housing affordability through the proposed measures, recognizing them as steps toward improving housing accessibility across Malaysia.

However, the association stressed that the sector continues to grapple with rising material costs, labour expenses, and land acquisition charges that have created significant headwinds for developers attempting to maintain affordable housing supply. Rehda argued these structural cost challenges require more comprehensive intervention beyond the current budget proposals.

The developers' body called for coordinated government policies to stabilize input costs and improve operational efficiency, suggesting that addressing supply-side constraints would be crucial to translating budget measures into tangible improvements in housing affordability for Malaysian consumers.

Rehda's position reflects broader industry concerns about the sustainability of affordable housing projects amid volatile economic conditions and competing resource demands across the property sector.
