REI Expo 2026 set to attract ₹2,800 crore in bioenergy investments

India's bioenergy sector is poised for significant capital inflow through the upcoming Renewable Energy India Expo (REI) 2026, which will take place from October 22 to 24 at the India Expo Mart & Centre in Greater Noida. The Indian Biogas Association flagged the investment pipeline of over ₹2,800 crore expected to be unlocked at the event, positioning biogas as a pivotal technology for India's sustainable growth agenda.

The announcement reflects strong policy tailwinds. The Union Cabinet's approval in August of the GOBARdhan (Galvanising Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan) National Circular Bioenergy Scheme—a ₹23,731 crore initiative that became effective on September 1—has intensified industry momentum. The investment expected through REI 2026 represents approximately 12 per cent of the overall scheme outlay.

The expo is structured to convene key stakeholders across the bioenergy value chain, including investors, project developers, technology providers and policymakers. Industry observers view the platform as instrumental in converting policy momentum into operational projects that align with the government's renewable energy expansion targets. The focus on biogas underscores India's broader commitment to circular economy principles and decarbonisation across the agriculture and waste management sectors.
