Reliance to invest $12bn in Andhra Pradesh biogas project

Reliance Industries will invest ₹1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh to develop compressed biogas (CBG) production facilities, company executive director Anant M Ambani announced on Friday at the foundation stone ceremony for the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle.

The investment is expected to create more than 3 lakh employment opportunities across the state while generating approximately ₹60,000 crore in revenue over the coming decades. The project represents a significant step in India's transition towards cleaner energy sources while providing new economic opportunities in rural areas.

Ambani emphasised the dual benefit of the initiative for India's food and energy security. "Our kisans, who ensure India's food security, will now strengthen India's energy security too - making India self-reliant in energy," he said, highlighting how farmers would participate in the renewable fuel supply chain.

CBG is produced by processing organic waste including agricultural residue, animal dung, and food waste into a renewable fuel. The project aligns with Reliance's broader strategy to diversify into sustainable energy solutions while supporting agricultural communities in leveraging their waste products for economic gain.
