Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Wednesday he would consider holding talks with representatives of the True Brown Style (TBS) gang, but made clear that any such dialogue must be contingent on the organization's commitment to halt its illegal activities.
"A dialogue must be with a commitment to stopping their nefarious activities," Remulla told reporters in Manila, setting a firm condition for any potential negotiations with the gang.
The Interior Secretary's statement reflects the government's willingness to explore non-military solutions to gang-related violence while maintaining a hardline stance on criminal conduct. His remarks come as authorities continue efforts to address gang violence that has affected communities across the country.
Remulla did not specify what form such dialogue might take or provide details on which gang representatives might be involved in potential talks. The conditional nature of his offer underscores the administration's position that any engagement with criminal groups must result in concrete steps toward ending their operations.
