A retail company has been awarded just $500 after pursuing legal action against an interior design firm over significant delays in the opening of a store at Cineleisure shopping centre, according to court proceedings.
The retailer had sought $463,000 in damages, claiming the design firm's failures had caused substantial financial losses. However, the judge found limited grounds for the full claim, awarding a fraction of the requested amount.
The court characterised the situation as marked by an "unfortunate" relationship between the two companies during the project's execution. The limited award reflects judicial assessment of liability and damages in what appears to have been a complex contractual dispute involving construction and design services.
