A 75-year-old retired educator in Kelantan fell victim to an impersonation fraud scheme, surrendering bank cards and personal valuables worth approximately RM15,000 to individuals posing as law enforcement officers.

KOTA BHARU — A retired teacher in Bachok has become the latest victim of an organised scam involving fraudsters impersonating police officers, losing significant savings and valuables in the process.
The 75-year-old victim was deceived into handing over automated teller machine cards and a gold necklace belonging to his wife, with authorities estimating the total loss at approximately RM15,000. The incident highlights the continuing prevalence of impersonation-based fraud schemes targeting senior citizens across the region.
The scammers employed tactics commonly associated with such criminal syndicates, convincing the retiree that he was involved in illegal activities or under investigation, creating a sense of urgency and panic that led to compliance with their demands.
The Kelantan Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant against unsolicited calls and requests for personal financial information. Police advise residents to independently verify any claims made by individuals identifying themselves as law enforcement before providing access to bank accounts or valuables.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter and have appealed for anyone with information regarding the scam syndicate to come forward.
