Officers from Midigama Police arrested the two suspects on suspicion of unlawfully possessing a significant quantity of pregabalin, a prescription medication with recognised potential for misuse and dependency. The operation resulted in the seizure of 1,270 capsules of the drug, which has been placed under police custody as part of ongoing investigations.
Pregabalin is a pharmaceutical agent commonly prescribed to treat nerve pain and certain seizure conditions, but regulatory authorities have identified it as a substance susceptible to abuse. The illegal stockpiling of such medications represents a public health concern, particularly given the controlled nature of its distribution.
The retired doctor's arrest marks a significant development in local law enforcement efforts to combat the illicit trafficking and hoarding of prescription pharmaceuticals. Investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the acquisition and intended distribution of the seized capsules, as well as to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement in the matter.
