MANILA — Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Arturo Brion has thrown his support behind Associate Justice Jose Midas Marquez as a potential successor to the Chief Justice position.
In endorsing Marquez, Brion highlighted the magistrate's exemplary performance and dedication during their shared tenure at the country's highest court. "I had the privilege of witnessing Associate Justice Marquez's exemplary work ethic and dedication to public service during my tenure in the Court, particularly while he served as Court Administrator," Brion stated.
Marquez, who has held various positions within the judicial system, previously served as Court Administrator, a role that gave him broad exposure to the Supreme Court's administrative operations and institutional needs.
The endorsement comes as discussions continue regarding the succession of the current Chief Justice position. The backing of a respected retired jurist could bolster Marquez's candidacy among judicial and legislative stakeholders involved in the selection process.
