Retired PSU Workers Urge President to Accelerate Pension Increase Process

Retired staff from public sector undertakings have petitioned the President of India to use her constitutional authority to expedite pending pension adjustments, according to statements from the National Coalition of Pensioners Association. The group has specifically requested intervention regarding a circular issued by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation on January 18, 2025, which it views as an impediment to the prompt implementation of enhanced pension benefits.

The NCPA contends that the President should direct both the Union Ministry of Labour & Employment and the EPFO to revoke the circular immediately. The coalition argues that such action would remove procedural obstacles currently delaying pension hike disbursements to eligible retirees from public sector organisations.

Pension revision remains a contentious issue affecting hundreds of thousands of retired public sector workers across India. The appeal reflects growing frustration among pensioners' groups over delays in implementing what they view as overdue compensation adjustments, with advocates suggesting that executive intervention at the highest levels may be necessary to break the current impasse.

The matter underscores ongoing tensions between pensioners' groups and government agencies over the pace and scope of benefit revisions, with retired workers arguing that administrative procedures should not hinder timely payment of enhanced pension entitlements.
