RGUHS plans pink lighting campaign for breast cancer awareness

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has initiated a campaign to light up significant government and heritage structures in pink as part of efforts to increase public consciousness about breast cancer prevention and early detection.

The initiative aims to leverage high-visibility landmarks to communicate key messages about breast cancer awareness to a wider audience. By illuminating iconic buildings in the distinctive pink hue associated with breast cancer advocacy, the university hopes to spark conversations and encourage screening among at-risk populations.

BREAST cancer remains a significant public health concern in India, with early detection playing a crucial role in improving treatment outcomes. Awareness campaigns utilising prominent public spaces have proven effective in reaching diverse demographics and promoting preventive health measures.

The RGUHS proposal reflects growing efforts by health institutions across India to utilize innovative approaches for disease awareness and public health communication. The university has sought approvals from relevant authorities to execute the illumination project at select government buildings and heritage sites in Bengaluru and surrounding areas.

The campaign is expected to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, traditionally observed in October, with organisers aiming to mobilise community support for cancer screening initiatives and survivor support programmes.
