A prominent rights adviser has called on Malaysia's top legal officer to take action in securing the release of three children from Myanmar who remain in detention in the country.
Latheefa Koya, adviser to the Free Malaysia Today Foundation, highlighted that the prolonged detention of the minors raises serious questions about their physical and psychological well-being. She stressed that their continued confinement represents a potential breach of Malaysia's commitments under international child protection frameworks.
"The detention of these children is inconsistent with Malaysia's obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child," Koya said, underscoring the need for urgent intervention by the Attorney-General's office.
The case has drawn attention from civil society advocates who argue that Malaysia must uphold its international human rights commitments, particularly regarding the protection and welfare of minors in its custody. The detained children's situation remains unresolved, prompting calls for immediate action from the relevant authorities.
