Rillo offers to drop cyber libel case if PGMN host apologizes

MANILA — Former Quezon City Representative Marvin Rillo said Tuesday he would consider dropping the cyber libel charges he filed against Peanut Gallery Media Network (PGMN) host CJ Hirro if she agrees to apologize for her statements.

Rillo, who initiated the seven counts of cyber libel at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, indicated that a formal apology from Hirro could lead to a resolution of the legal dispute between the two. However, Hirro has made clear she does not intend to tender any such apology, effectively closing off this potential avenue for settlement.

The case centers on statements made by the media personality that Rillo views as defamatory. The dispute comes as media practitioners and legal observers continue to debate the application of cyber libel laws in the Philippines, particularly regarding cases involving public figures and media commentary.

The case remains pending before the court, with no immediate indication of when a resolution may be reached given the parties' seemingly incompatible positions on the matter.
