Saudi-led coalition forces confirmed that a projectile struck terminals 3 and 4 of King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, causing injuries among travellers and airport staff. The attack marked the second incident at the facility within 24 hours, following a devastating missile strike on Saturday that claimed at least 12 lives and wounded around 300 others. The airport remained closed following the latest assault.
The Houthi rebel group, backed by Iran, claimed responsibility for both attacks as well as several other incidents targeting Saudi Arabian infrastructure. Saturday's strike represented the deadliest assault on any Gulf Arab nation since the broader regional conflict began, drawing renewed international attention to the escalating humanitarian and security crisis.
India's embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed that an Indian national died on Sunday from injuries sustained during Saturday's attack. The incident adds to growing concerns about civilian casualties and the expanding geographic scope of the conflict beyond Yemen's borders.
The escalating attacks have prompted heightened international concern, particularly regarding potential deeper United States military involvement. American President Donald Trump has indicated he is considering direct participation in operations against the Houthis, though no formal White House statement was issued Sunday. The renewed violence signals a dangerous intensification in regional tensions that could draw major powers further into the conflict.
